Walkthrough: Meet up with Eagle Flies. Then go with Dutch and use the cable to connect the explosives. When everything is ready, return to the top of the hill and wait for the enemy patrol. When soldiers walk past the first charge, detonate the dynamite and you’ll cut off their escape route.

After the cut-scene, you will have to engage the enemies in a shootout. Kill the opposition, then go down and start searching their bodies. The army will attack again, this time using… artillery! Kill the enemies quickly and try to reach the cannon crew as quickly as possible. To complete an additional mission goal, you’ll have to reach the cannon within 45 seconds.

After the cut-scenes, run with Dutch. Get on the horse, reach the ravine and continue your escape on foot. Kill the enemies who are chasing you and after some time you will reach the cliff. During the cut-scene, don’t stop retreating and finally jump into the water.

Once you land in the river, swim forward and hold on to Dutch. Your companion will drag you to the shore and you will finish the mission.

How to get the gold medal in Favored Sons?

  1. Kill the soldier at the cannon in less than 45 seconds – Focus on killing enemies and shooting your way through to the opponent at the cannon as quickly as possible.
  2. Execute 35 headshots – That’s quite a number. You can score a lot of hits when you stay alone with Dutch and gradually retreat towards the cliff. You can hide behind stones and kill the enemies who will pour out of the forest.
  3. Complete the mission without using items that restore health. A classic RDR2 challenge.

What are the key challenges in completing the Favored Sons mission

Completing the Favored Sons mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 presents several key challenges:

  1. Gold Medal Requirements:

    • Kill the soldier on the cannon within 45 seconds: This requires quick reflexes and accurate shooting once the cannon is in range.

    • Get 35 headshots: Achieving this many headshots demands effective use of Dead Eye and strategic positioning to maximize your shooting opportunities.

    • Complete the mission without taking any health items: This adds an extra layer of difficulty, as you must avoid taking damage throughout the intense combat sequences.

  2. Combat Intensity: The mission involves a surprise attack on a large group of soldiers, which can be overwhelming if not managed properly. Using cover and Dead Eye effectively is crucial to surviving these encounters.

  3. Scripted Events: Some parts of the mission are scripted, limiting player freedom. For example, attempting to avoid certain actions like jumping off a cliff may not progress the mission as intended.

  4. Time Pressure: The mission has time-sensitive objectives, such as killing the soldier on the cannon quickly, which adds to the overall challenge and tension.

What happens if I fail to detonate the dynamite on time

If you fail to detonate dynamite on time, several outcomes are possible, depending on the situation:

  1. Misfire: If the detonation mechanism fails, the dynamite may not explode. In such cases, it is crucial to follow safety protocols to avoid accidents. This includes ensuring no one approaches the area and taking steps to safely dispose of the undetonated explosives.

  2. Delayed Detonation: If the delay mechanism is faulty, the dynamite might detonate later than intended. This can be dangerous as it may catch people off guard or cause unintended damage.

  3. Safety Risks: Dynamite is highly unstable and sensitive to impact. If it is not handled properly, it could detonate prematurely due to external factors like vibrations or impacts6.

  4. Disposal: If dynamite fails to detonate, it must be handled carefully. It should be removed from the site and disposed of by trained personnel to prevent accidents.

In any case, failing to detonate dynamite on time requires immediate attention to ensure safety and prevent potential hazards.
