  1. The Enclave Library is one of the optional locations that are part of the Emerald Grove in the Grove of Druids. Visiting this area is part of the main quest Remove the Parasite.
  2. Meet with Nettie, who’s in the Druids Chambers. Reveal during the conversation that you have a parasite in your head, and Nettie will invite you to the library. The woman will unlock the secret passage from the picture above, which you couldn’t break into due to the lack of a visible traditional lock.

In the library you can also solve the riddle to unlock the hidden treasury. We described it on the page Riddle with runes in the Emerald Grove.

How to unlock the exits from the Enclave Library?

To unlock the exits from the Enclave Library in Baldur’s Gate 3, players must first obtain the Key of the Ancients from Nettie, a healer encountered earlier in the game. This typically involves defeating her, as she may turn hostile if players refuse her poison treatment. Once Nettie is defeated, loot her body for the circlet and equip it on one of your party members. This will allow you to interact with both exits: the main stone slab door and a second exit concealed by poisonous gas. To safely navigate the latter, consume an antidote to gain immunity to poison, then use a nearby object to block the gas vent, allowing your entire party to pass through safely.

  1. Nettie sees a threat in the parasite inhabiting the protagonist’s body and decides to administer deadly poison to him. We have described this problem in more detail on a separate page Nettie and antidote.
  2. One of the variants assumes that you will be trapped in the Enclave Library without a visible exit from the room.
  3. The solution to the issue is to acquire Nettie’s unique headgear – it is the Key of the Ancients. You can steal it from Nettie or rob her body after you’ll kill her in a duel.

  1. You have to equip one of the team members with a new item – place the key in the slot for the headgear.
  2. After the action is completed, you just need to go to the stone doors that Nettie had previously opened. Clicking on them will unlock the passage. You’ll return to the main part of the Emerald Grove.

  1. There is also a second secret exit from the library. You have to discover them first through a successfully completed passive perception test – a picture shows them.
  2. Again put on the headgear that Nettie used and click on the secret passage to make it unlock.

  1. There are poisonous gas fumes in the new room. You can deal with them using, for example, the Elixir of Silvanus, which Nettie had with her. You can also try to disarm traps, but these are difficult skill tests.
  2. In the secret room, you will find the secret door to the Underground Passage, that is, to the dungeon with goblins and traps under the Druid Grove.

What happens if you don’t complete the Enclave Library puzzle

If you fail to complete the Enclave Library puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3, you risk becoming trapped in the library with no immediate means of escape. The library’s exit is sealed by a stone slab, and without solving the rune puzzle or obtaining the Arcane Circlet from Nettie, players may find themselves stuck indefinitely, unable to access their camp or utilize waypoints.
In some scenarios, players have reported encountering game-breaking bugs that prevent any progress, particularly if they inadvertently kill Nettie or fail to acquire necessary items before sealing the exit. This situation can lead to a frustrating experience where the only solution is to revert to an earlier save, as there are no alternative methods to exit the library once trapped. Therefore, completing the puzzle not only unlocks the door but also allows for continued exploration and quest progression within the game.

What consequences will you face if you can’t escape the Enclave Library

If you are unable to escape the Enclave Library in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will face significant consequences that can hinder your progress in the game. Here’s what you might encounter:

  1. Trapped Without an Exit: Failing to solve the puzzle or acquire the necessary items, such as Nettie’s Arcane Circlet, can leave you trapped in the library. The stone slab door will remain sealed, preventing any exit from the room.
  2. Loss of Access to Camp: Being stuck means you cannot access your camp or use waypoints, which are crucial for resting and managing your inventory. This can lead to a situation where you are unable to heal or prepare for upcoming challenges.
  3. Game-Breaking Bugs: Some players have reported encountering bugs that result in being permanently trapped without any means of escape. If you send the circlet to your camp before realizing its importance, you may find yourself in a situation where there is no way to retrieve it, effectively halting your game progress.
  4. Need for an Earlier Save: In many cases, the only solution for players who find themselves stuck is to revert to an earlier save file. This can be frustrating, especially if significant time has passed since that save point.
