A well-run camp in Red Dead Redemption 2 can mean the difference between a ragtag band on the brink and an outlaw family thriving on the frontier. Upgrading your headquarters boosts morale, opens new services, and keeps your crew loyal-but knowing what to improve first can save both time and dollars.
The first fully fledged gang camp becomes the one on the hill at Horseshoe Overlook. It is presented at the end of the first chapter of the game’s main storyline, when the caravan arrives to Overlook location.
Upgrading the gang’s headquarters is initially blocked. In order to be able to improve the camp site, you must join the main mission of Money Lending and Other Sins, which is commissioned by the Leopold Strauss residing in this location.
In the initial parts of this mission, Arthur must recover the debt from the three persons indicated by Strauss. After you visit the indicated persons and recover the cash, you must return to the camp and put the money in the box shown in the picture. This box was already available before, but at the time it was not yet used for any specific purpose. You can put all jewellery, jewels and money to the stash. All of this is used to finance improvements to the camp.
To order upgrades, you must open the Ledger next to the stash chest. On the following pages of the book you will find the improvements that can be purchased. Only basic improvements are available from the very beginning. Buying a basic upgrade can unlock a higher level upgrade. It is usually more expensive, but it offers even better profits.
Priority should be given to the Lodging tab in the register. Purchase a Dutch tent upgrade for (First Things First) $220 and then a newly unlocked travel planning map (Next in Line) for $325. By purchasing both of these upgrades, you will be able to unlock the fast travel option from the camp by interacting with a map hanging near Arthur’s bed.
Which camp upgrades unlock fast travel first
Lodging Tier 3 (“Next in Line”) unlocks fast travel first in Red Dead Redemption 2’s camp Ledger. This upgrade adds a map to Arthur’s wagon, allowing instant travel to discovered locations.
Upgrade Steps
Access the Ledger after the Chapter 2 mission “Money Lending and Other Sins I.” First purchase Lodging Tier 1 (“First Things First,” $220) to upgrade Dutch’s tent, which unlocks Tier 2 (“One at a Time,” $325) for Arthur’s wagon and fast travel. Donate cash to the tithing box to fund these; gang members contribute more after Tier 1.
Usage and Benefits
Interact with the map on Arthur’s wagon to select destinations you’ve visited. It eliminates long horse rides, saving time for missions or exploration. Total cost hits $545, but it’s essential early in Chapter 2.
Which upgrade immediately enables the Fast Travel Map
Lodging Tier 3 (“Next in Line”) immediately enables the Fast Travel Map in Red Dead Redemption 2. Purchasing this upgrade adds the interactive map directly to the side of Arthur’s wagon at camp.
Prerequisite
First buy Lodging Tier 1 (“First Things First,” $220) to upgrade Dutch’s tent, unlocking Tier 2 (“One at a Time,” $325) for Arthur’s wagon-the Tier 3 option then appears for $325 more. Total cost reaches around $545 via the Ledger after Chapter 2’s “Money Lending and Other Sins I”.
Activation
Interact with the new map on Arthur’s wagon to fast travel to any previously discovered locations (one-way from camp only until later upgrades). It streamlines exploration in the vast open world right after purchase.
