Location

Sorcerer Rogier can be initially found in Stormveil Castle, specifically located in a secluded chapel within the castle’s northwest section. To reach him, players must navigate through the castle and defeat Godrick the Grafted. After this encounter, Rogier relocates to the Roundtable Hold, where he can be found on the balcony overlooking the entrance hall. Engaging with Rogier is essential for progressing his questline, which intertwines with other significant narratives in Elden Ring, particularly those involving Fia and Ranni.

Rogier is in the Stormveil Castle , on its west side, more specifically in a small chapel.

How to proceed with the quest?

To proceed with Sorcerer Rogier’s quest in Elden Ring, begin by locating him in Stormveil Castle, where he can be found in a chapel before you confront Godrick the Grafted. After defeating Godrick, return to the Roundtable Hold to find Rogier on the balcony, where he will reward you with Rogier’s Rapier +8. Next, you must explore the area beneath Stormveil to find a bloodstain that reveals a memory linked to Rogier’s fate. This involves defeating a Lesser Ulcerated Tree Spirit and interacting with a grotesque face nearby. Following this, consult Fia about the Black Knifeprint, which leads you to the Black Knife Catacombs. Once you obtain the Black Knifeprint, return to Rogier for further instructions. Be cautious not to engage with Ranni before completing these steps, as it can hinder your progress in Rogier’s storyline.

When speaking to Rogier for the first time, tell him what the purpose of your trip to the Stormveil Castle is.

After defeating the boss called Godrick the Grafted , Rogier will move to the Roundtable Hold . Talk to him and tell him that you defeated Godrick. This will give you his weapon, Rogier’s Rapier 8.

The further part of Rogier’s quest takes place below the Stormveil Castle. Go to the Liftside Chambersite of grace. As you leave the chamber, go right. You will notice a human body next to the edge. Then you have to safely jump down to the very bottom.

You should encounter several smaller and larger rats. Defeat or avoid them, then go straight ahead.

By jumping down again, you will have to fight an opponent, a tree spirit in the form of a humanoid enemy.

Defeat him and continue forward. You will notice a great stone face. Next to it, there is an item to pick up, the Prince of Death’s Postule .

Interestingly enough, you may be surprised to find a red bloodstain here that is a sight reserved for the online features of the title. The stain is Rogier’s. Interact with it to see what happened.

Go back to Rogier and ask him about the corpse below the Stormveil Castle. You can now approach Fia to hug and choose a few dialogue options which will give you the exact location of Black Knifeprint.

Travel to the Black Knife Catacombs in the northeastern part of Liurnia of the Lakes. After defeating the Black Knife Assasin , you will receive an item.

Go back to Rogier and give him the Black Knifeprint. After resetting the location, he will examine this item and tell you to seek out Ranni.

You can find her in Ranni’s Rise , in the north-eastern part of Liurnia of the Lakes. You need to be accepted into her service, which starts an additional questline. Once you accept her offer and start her questline, go back to Rogier.

He will tell you that he is slowly falling into a deep slumber and there is nothing you can do about it. After resetting the location, you won’t be able to talk to him anymore due to his condition.

During Ranni’s questline, you will have to kill Blaidd. Once Blaidd is taken care of, travel to Roundtable Hold and approach Rogier to finish the mission.

What makes Rogier’s quest so easy to miss in Elden Ring

Rogier’s quest in Elden Ring is notably easy to miss due to several key factors that can lead players astray:

  1. Initial Encounter Location: Players first meet Sorcerer Rogier in a secluded chapel within Stormveil Castle, where he offers limited dialogue and no immediate quest guidance. This initial interaction occurs before battling Godrick the Grafted, causing many players to overlook him entirely as they focus on progressing through the castle.
  2. Timing with Ranni: A critical aspect of Rogier’s quest is that engaging with Ranni in the Three Sisters area of Liurnia before completing specific steps of Rogier’s storyline will block further progression. This can easily happen if players are drawn to Ranni’s more prominent questline, effectively sidelining Rogier’s narrative.
  3. Hidden Objectives: After defeating Godrick, players must return to Rogier at the Roundtable Hold and engage in specific interactions, including locating a hidden bloodstain that reveals crucial lore about Rogier’s fate. This bloodstain is tucked away behind a challenging boss encounter, making it easy to miss if players are not thorough in their exploration.
  4. Quest Complexity and Lore Importance: While Rogier’s quest is relatively short, it is rich in lore and tied to larger narratives involving other characters like Ranni and Fia. Players who rush through or neglect Rogier may miss significant story elements that enhance the overall experience of the game.

These factors combine to create a scenario where players might unintentionally bypass Rogier’s quest, leading to missed opportunities for lore and character development within the intricate world of Elden Ring.

  4. Consulting Fia: After witnessing the bloodstain vision, players should speak to Fia, who will provide information about the Black Knifeprint—a key item needed for the quest.
  5. Black Knife Catacombs: Players must locate the Black Knife Catacombs in Liurnia, defeat the Black Knife Assassin, and obtain the Black Knifeprint. This step is critical for advancing Rogier’s storyline.
