Baldur’s Gate 3 Harper Stash in Grymforge: How to Disarm Trap on Chest

Guides

In Baldur’s Gate 3, players are often drawn into the thrill of uncovering hidden treasures, and the Hidden Harper’s Chest puzzle is no exception. Nestled within the perilous terrain of Grymforge, this elusive cache promises valuable loot but is guarded by cunning traps and fierce mimics. As adventurers navigate through the dark caverns, they must solve a clever riddle involving a seemingly innocuous scuffed rock to unlock the secrets of the Harper’s Stash. Will you be able to outsmart the dangers lurking in the shadows and claim your prize?

How to move the scuffed rock?

To move the scuffed rock in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need a character with a Strength score of 13 or higher. This can be your custom character or one of your companions, such as Lae’zel or Karlach. First, locate the rock near the Nautiloid crash site at coordinates X:145 Y:280. Once you have a suitable character selected, simply hover over the rock and click and drag it to reveal an Ornate Chest hidden beneath. This chest contains valuable loot, including a Harper’s Map, Ruby, and Potions of Speed. If your party members fail to spot the rock initially, consider reloading your last save or swapping characters to try again.

As you approach the edge, your party will make an automatic Nature check. The DC is low, so it’s likely at least one of them will pass. If they don’t, you’ll need to load your most recent save and try again.

Passing the test will let you interact with the scuffed stone. You need high Strength to move it. If none of your characters are strong enough, you could recruit Karlach the Barbarian. You’ll learn more about her on this page. Left click on the stone, hold down the button and get it out of the way.

Under the boulder is a smallchest, hiding some useful treasure and the Harper’s Map with clues on how to reach the cache.

How to reach the Harper’s Cache?

To reach the Harper’s Cache in Baldur’s Gate 3, start at the shore where you begin the game. Head south from the runic circle along one of the main roads at Roadside Cliffs until you find a suspicious scuffed rock on a small rocky cliff. Underneath, you’ll discover a chest containing the Harper’s Map, which will help you locate the cache. What special treasure can I find in the Harper’s Cache

In the Harper’s Cache located in the Grymforge area of Baldur’s Gate 3, players can find a variety of valuable treasures. The main rewards include:

  • Scroll of Evidence: This scroll provides lore insights relevant to Act 2 and details about Halsin’s history with Ketheric Thorm.
  • 21 Gold Pieces (GP): A modest amount of currency.
  • Magical Items: In addition to the scroll and gold, players may also discover two magical items along with various pieces of jewelry and additional gold hidden within the nearby mimics, which disguise themselves as treasure chests.

To access the Harper’s Cache, players must solve a puzzle involving a Toy Chest that requires illumination to unlock, followed by disarming traps to safely retrieve the treasures inside.

What are the best strategies to avoid the mimics in Grymforge

To avoid the mimics in Grymforge while exploring Baldur’s Gate 3, consider the following strategies:

  • Maintain Distance: Mimics will attack as soon as you approach them, even without interaction. Keep a safe distance from any suspicious chests to avoid triggering their ambush.
  • Use Perception Checks: Before approaching chests, perform a Perception check (DC 20) to identify potential mimics. Failing this check can lead to surprise attacks.
  • Illuminate Chests: If you encounter a Toy Chest, cast a light-emitting spell (like Light or Daylight) on it. This will reveal the true nature of nearby chests and help you navigate safely.
  • Ranged Attacks: If you do engage with mimics, use ranged attacks to keep your distance. Mimics have limited movement speed and primarily attack in close range, making them less of a threat from afar.
  • Avoid Melee Engagement: Since mimics can consume weapons during combat, it’s wise to avoid melee attacks unless necessary. Instead, rely on spells and ranged weapons to deal damage.
