Shattered Sanctum – important places
The Shattered Sanctum in Baldur’s Gate 3 serves as a pivotal location filled with significant areas and characters that shape the player’s journey. Within its confines, players can encounter Priestess Gut, who offers both assistance and deception, and the Bloodied Shrine, a site steeped in dark rituals. The Worg Pens present an opportunity to rescue the druid Halsin, while the Defiled Temple houses intricate puzzles that unlock further exploration. Each of these locations is not only crucial for quest progression but also enriches the narrative through interactions with notable NPCs and the unfolding of various storylines.
Goblin guards at the gate. You will be stopped by them if you chose the main entrance to the sanctuary. You can attack them or get in thanks to a well-conducted conversation – pass one of the skill checks or use the illithid power. You can also avoid being stopped by the guards by choosing the upper entrance to the sanctuary.
Chapel. Here you can meet with the Priestess Gut after you talk to her in the main hall and tell her about the parasite. If you agree to her help, then everyone except the main character must leave. Your character will be tricked by getting a sleep potion (you can recognize it by passing the skill check) and trapped in the Defiled Temple.
Alternative behaviors include robbing or murdering the priestess (preferably before she calls for help) – you’ll find, e.g. a key and a note.
Doors leading to the Defiled Temple. They are locked – use the thief’s tools or get the key from Priestess Gut. In addition, do not let anyone notice you when you open the door (it may be Gut if she is in the chapel).
Goblins and other characters that are in the Shattered Sanctum are by default neutral towards your party. However, it is very easy to provoke fights with goblins, e.g. as a result of a bad conversation or being caught trying to enter the restricted zone. If there is a fight, then try to prevent the goblins from using war drums to alarm the entire area.
Defiled Temple – important places
The Defiled Temple in Baldur’s Gate 3 serves as a crucial location within the Shattered Sanctum, acting as a dark hub of cult activity and sinister rituals. Players can enter this area through various routes, often encountering challenges such as locked doors and hostile goblins. The temple features significant points of interest, including a prison where characters can be trapped, and a moon puzzle that unlocks further exploration into the Underdark. Interactions with key NPCs like Priestess Gut can lead to pivotal story developments, including opportunities for deception or confrontation. Exploring the Defiled Temple is essential for uncovering the deeper narratives of the game and navigating its complex moral choices.
Prison. You can be imprisoned here after drinking the potion given by the Priestess – passing the skill check may help you get released faster. Alternatively, you can visit the prison room with the party upon reaching this location.
The floor of the prison is weakened – you can destroy it and jump into the hole. There is a risk of injury from falling from a high altitude (it is advisable to use the Feather Fall spell, which mitigates the fall).
Moon puzzle. The mystery is solved in one of the eastern chambers of the Defiled Temple. We have posted the full solution on the page How to solve the moon puzzle?
Solving it unlocks a secret passage. By using it you can reach the ladder that leads down to the Underdark.
Shattered Sanctum – companions
In Baldur’s Gate 3: Shattered Sanctum, players can encounter several intriguing companions who significantly enhance gameplay. Among them is Minthara, a drow paladin serving the Absolute, found within the sanctum itself. Players have the option to ally with her, which can lead to morally complex choices, including betraying the Druid Grove. Halsin, the leader of the Druid Grove, is also captured in the Shattered Sanctum and can be rescued to join your party, providing versatile druidic abilities. Additionally, Lae’zel and Shadowheart are early companions, each bringing unique skills and backstories that enrich the narrative and combat dynamics as players navigate the challenges of the game.
Minthara. She is a cleric and a drow, as well as one of the goblin leaders – you, can choose to kill her.
Alternatively, you can work with Minthara and plan a joint attack on the Druid Grove. The game also allows you to trick Minthara by giving a fake location of the planned ambush. Minthara is one of the potential companions inBG3. Siding with her may result in some of the companions leaving your party, including Wyll and Karlach.
Defiled Temple – companions
In the Defiled Temple of Baldur’s Gate 3, players can encounter significant companions that enhance their journey through this treacherous area. Notably, Halsin, a druid who initially appears as a bear, can be rescued during a battle against goblins and worgs. Once freed, players have the option to invite him into their party or send him back to the Druid Grove for later recruitment. Additionally, Minthara, a drow cleric and one of the goblin leaders, presents a complex choice; players can either ally with her for a strategic advantage or confront her directly, which may lead to other companions leaving the party. These interactions not only affect gameplay dynamics but also influence character relationships and story outcomes.
Bear – Druid Halsin. You have to reach the small separate location called Worg Pens accessed with the doors in the eastern part of the Shattered Sanctum.
Goblins throw stones at the bear and no matter how you behave, the bear will break the gate and the battle will begin. Help the bear in killing goblins and worgs from the nearby cage. Also, expect reinforcements to arrive (they will use the same door as you). After winning the battle, you will learn that the bear is in fact the Druid Halsin.
After winning the battle, Halsin can join your party or return to the Druid Grove. When you visit the Grove, you will be able to add him to your party.

Goblin priestess. You can meet her as part of the quest to remove the parasite from your character’s head. She is also one of the goblin leaders – you can choose to kill her.
Roah Moonglow. She is a trader, selling, among others, potions, various varieties of arrows, scrolls, picklocks, sets for disarming traps, melee, and ranged weapons, and armor items.
Dror Razglin. He is one of the goblin leaders- you can decide to kill him and it is worth in this situation to use the ladder to reach the beams near the ceiling. You can attack enemies from a distance with a huge height advantage or drop braziers on them.
You can attend the hearing of the deceased mind flayer. Passing the wisdom check will allow you to take control of Razglin and ask questions yourself. Avoid questions about the identity of the killer, because the mind flayer will point to the main hero and the fight will begin. So it’s best to properly position all party members first and attack from hiding.
Liam. He’s being tortured by goblins. You can attack the goblins or dispose of them peacefully – pass one of the skill checks or use the power of illithid. You can question Liam and find out about the Nightsong artifact, and then release him – you will need to pass a dexterity skill check.
