In the side quest Wake Up Art Cullagh in Baldur’s Gate 3, players embark on a journey to revive a cursed man found at the Last Light Inn. To initiate the quest, interact with Art Cullagh, who lies unconscious but physically unharmed. The quest involves traveling to the House of Healing, where players must confront Malus Thorm, a challenging boss. Successfully navigating this encounter—either through combat or persuasion—yields a vital item: the Battered Lute. You’ll receive the quest after speaking to the man pictured below. He’s at Last Light Inn, next to Counsellor Florrick you could have saved in the previous act. Examine hm and talk to the woman keeping watch over him. You’ll learn he’s spent a long time in the Shadowfell, the realm of Shar, and was exploring the House of Healing.

Return to the camp – you can talk to Halsin. After a short conversation he’ll head to Last Light Inn.

Talk to the Druid again there and head south to the House of Healing.

If Marcus managed to kidnap Isobel and Last Light fell, cast Speak With The Dead on Marcus’ corpse. This will drastically speed up the quest and skip the House of Healing.

On the way south you may come across some peculiar ruins – be careful, there’s an ambush here. The enemies can restrain your characters and teleport, so hope you’ve passed that Perception check.

You’ll eventually reach one of the bridges leading to the heavily cursed area. If you haven’t gotten the Pixie’s blessing or the Drider’s lantern, turn back to get them. You won’t get far otherwise.

If you have the means to move freely within the curse, proceed. At the central square you’ll face some warped Harpers. It shouldn’t be too tough. After the battle, follow to the quest marker.

You’ll find the entrance to the House of Healing at the coordinates X:-189 and Y:-19. Enter the House and look around. If you’ve saved Arabella from Kagha in Act 1, her questline continues here. Helping them triggers the quest “Save Arabella’s Parents”, which you can read about here.

After searching the rooms, rest and head to the main hall where you’ll find one of the Thorms, busy giving a blasphemous lecture on medicine and Shar.

You can skip the battle against Malus Thorm and his nurses by succeeding at the conversation. If you want to maximize your chances, have a Cleric talk to him. Having a Bard in your party will also let you use Bardic Inspiration on difficult skillchecks. If you fail, get ready for a challenging battle – Malus can easily kill characters with a single hit, while his nurses can inflict Paralysis. It’s way easier to Persuade him to kill himself and the nurses.

Regardless of how you’ve dealt with him, search Malus’ corpse and take the lute. Return to Last Light Inn and talk to Halsin.
