Guides

Unlock the secrets of the Lands Between with the Spectral Steed Whistle, your gateway to summoning Torrent, the magical horse of Elden Ring. This essential tool, gifted by Melina after resting at select Sites of Grace, transforms your journey through this expansive world, allowing you to traverse vast distances and engage in thrilling mounted combat. Whether you’re dodging enemy attacks or leaping over obstacles, Torrent is more than just a mode of transport; it’s a key ally in your quest for glory. Discover how to obtain and master the art of summoning your spectral steed in our comprehensive guide.

The Spectral Steed isn’t just a mount that will help you cover long distances in less time, but it will also aid you in combat against powerful opponents. He is fast and can perform double jump. While riding it, you can still attack enemies but can’t use shields. Combat on horse is based on striking and quickly moving away from enemies before they can hit you back. You start the game without a mount. To unlock it, you need to obtain the Spectral Steed Whistle first.

You’ll get the Spectral Steed Whistle from Melina after you unlock a few sites of grace. Melina will talk to you automatically during the cutscene when you are resting at one of the sites and offer you help. Agree to receive access to the Roundtable Hold and the whistle.

After obtaining the whistle, equip it in the item quick select menu to use it anytime you need it. Using the whistle will summon Torrent, and you will immediately mount it. Summoning Torrent is free but only available in certain places – usually large, open areas. You can also mount the Spectral Steed during some boss fights.

The mount has a separate health bar and can die. But don’t worry – its death is not permanent. If Torrent dies, you can resurrect it by resting at any site of grace (it will come back to life automatically) or by using the whistle again and spending one Flask of Crimson Tears charge. You will restore the charge automatically when you rest at any site of grace.

What are the best strategies for using the Spectral Steed in combat

Using the Spectral Steed, Torrent, in combat can significantly enhance your effectiveness in Elden Ring. Here are some of the best strategies to maximize your combat prowess while mounted:

Combat Strategies for Using the Spectral Steed

1. Hit-and-Run Tactics

  • Utilize Torrent’s speed to execute quick strikes on enemies and retreat before they can counterattack. This strategy allows you to deal damage while minimizing risk, as you can quickly reposition yourself after an attack.

2. Double Jump Maneuverability

  • Take advantage of Torrent’s ability to double jump, which can help you avoid ground-based attacks and obstacles. Use this feature to gain height and surprise enemies from above or to escape tight situations.

3. Mount Health Management

  • Keep an eye on Torrent’s health during battles. If it takes too much damage, it can die, but you can revive it by resting at a Site of Grace or using a Flask of Crimson Tears charge. Consider feeding Torrent Rowa Raisins to restore its health during longer encounters.

4. Boss Fights

  • In certain boss fights, summoning Torrent can provide a tactical advantage. You can maintain distance from powerful attacks while still dealing damage, making it easier to dodge and reposition as needed.

5. Terrain Utilization

  • Look for environmental features like air streams that can propel you higher when jumping with Torrent. This not only allows access to hard-to-reach areas but also provides strategic vantage points during combat.

6. Kiting Enemies

  • Use Torrent’s speed to kite enemies, drawing them into attacks while maintaining distance. This is particularly effective against slower foes or those with powerful but telegraphed attacks.

By employing these strategies, players can effectively harness the capabilities of the Spectral Steed in combat scenarios, making encounters more manageable and dynamic throughout their journey in Elden Ring.

How can I use the Spectral Steed to outmaneuver enemies

To effectively use the Spectral Steed, Torrent, to outmaneuver enemies in Elden Ring, consider the following strategies:

Strategies for Outmaneuvering Enemies with Torrent

1. Utilize Speed and Agility

  • Torrent is significantly faster than your character on foot. Use this speed to dash away from enemies, especially when they are preparing to attack. The ability to quickly retreat allows you to heal or reposition without taking damage.

2. Master the Double Jump

  • Take advantage of Torrent’s double jump capability. This not only helps you avoid ground-based attacks but also allows you to change direction mid-air, making it difficult for enemies to predict your movements. Use this feature to leap over incoming attacks and obstacles.

3. Hit-and-Run Tactics

  • Engage enemies with quick strikes while mounted, then immediately dash away before they can retaliate. This method is effective against larger foes with slower attacks, allowing you to deal damage while minimizing risk.

4. Kiting and Ranged Attacks

  • For ranged enemies, maintain a distance while circling around them. Use Torrent’s speed to dodge projectiles and close the gap for melee attacks when safe. This tactic keeps you mobile and reduces the likelihood of being hit.

5. Environmental Awareness

  • Look for air streams in the environment that can propel you higher when jumping with Torrent. These can help you access advantageous positions or escape from tight spots quickly without taking fall damage.

6. Avoiding Enclosed Spaces

  • Be cautious in tight areas where Torrent’s size and speed can be a disadvantage. In these situations, it may be better to dismount and engage enemies on foot where you can maneuver more easily.

By employing these strategies, you can effectively use Torrent to outmaneuver enemies, enhancing both your survivability and combat effectiveness in Elden Ring.
