From the dusty trails to the bustling towns, the horse you ride in Red Dead Redemption 2 can mean the difference between survival and defeat. Here’s how to find, tame, and buy the finest breeds across the frontier – from fleet-footed Arabians to unstoppable warhorses.
The best horse you can purchase
Wait with getting this horse until you reach the fourth chapter. The option to get new mounts is tied with your progress in the main storyline.
Reach Saint Denis and visit the stable located on the outskirts.
The stable should have a blackArabian horse in its offer. The default price for this horse is $1,050 but having a lot of honor points will give you a discount. The biggest discount you can get is 50%, but this is only possible when you reach the highest reputation level. It is more probable that you will get 15 or 25% discount.
The best wild horse
The earliest moment when you can start looking for this horse is after the prologue (when you start the second chapter). This is a great way of getting a good horse at an early stage of the game – thanks to that you will be able to build your bond faster.
Head to the partially frozen Lake Isabella. This place is in mountains, in the north-west part of the map. You can start your journey to that place from, i.e. Valentine. Also, don’t forget to take winter clothes with you.
Once you reach the lake, you can either ride on the frozen water or on the shore. Look around a lot, and you should find the white Arabian horse presented in the picture above.
Remember that this is a wild horse. You can’t approach it right away and mount. The animal is easy to get scared off. There are two ways of catching wild horses. The first method is to dismount your current horse. Lock the camera on the wild horse (L2 / LT). Start moving very slowly towards the animal, and remember to press Square / X regularly to calm the animal.
The second method is to use your lasso. Start chasing the animal. Use your lasso when you get close enough to the wild horse. After that, you have to dismount your horse and approach the wild one – press Square / X to calm it down.
It is highly probable that the wild horse will run away and disappear from your view. Luckily, you don’t have to use the Eagle Eye. Simply follow its tracks left on the snow.
Mount the horse. You now have to complete a short mini-game during which you have to tame the animal – move the analog stick in the opposite direction to the horse’s movements. Completing the game allows you to tame the animal. If you fail, Arthur will fall from the horse. This means that you will have to repeat all the steps.
Where to find the Rose Grey Bay Arabian spawn location
Rose Grey Bay Arabian Location
The Rose Grey Bay Arabian cannot be found in the wild and is exclusively available for purchase at the Blackwater stable after completing the main story, specifically during or after Epilogue 1 when playing as John Marston. Blackwater becomes accessible once the epilogue begins, as Arthur faces a wanted status there earlier in the game. It costs $1,250 (or less with high honor) and offers top-tier stats in speed (7), acceleration (7), health (6), and stamina (6).
Early Access Glitches
Some outdated glitches, like reinstalling the original disc version and checking a Saint Denis spot in Chapter 2, occasionally spawned it before official availability, but these no longer work reliably post-patches. Random stable tricks north of Saint Denis have also been patched out. Standard purchase remains the consistent method.
Alternatives in the Wild
For similar elite Arabians that do spawn wild, target the White Arabian northwest of Lake Isabella (early-game, Grizzlies West) or Red Chestnut Arabian northeast of Fort Wallace. Tame by approaching slowly, lassoing, and calming repeatedly before saddling [conversation_history].
How to trigger Rose Grey Bay spawn in St. Denis stable
Rose Grey Bay Arabian Stable Glitch
The Rose Grey Bay Arabian does not legitimately spawn at the St. Denis stable; it is only available for purchase at Blackwater stable post-epilogue. Older glitches allowed early spawns via disc reinstallation (installing unpatched disc version offline, then checking a spot north of St. Denis in Chapter 2), but patches have made this unreliable. Save-scumming at random horse spawn points near St. Denis (north of the city) occasionally yielded it pre-patch by reloading saves repeatedly.
St. Denis Stable Method
No confirmed current method triggers it specifically at St. Denis stables, as confirmed sources list Blackwater exclusively. Masked stable entry, shooting to create witnesses, and feeding the horse was a Blackwater glitch for free acquisition, adaptable to other stables but not guaranteeing Rose Grey Bay. Time-based spawns (Arabians early morning) at nearby spots were reported but inconsistent post-updates.
Reliable Acquisition
Purchase legitimately at Blackwater for $1,250 after Epilogue 1, or pursue wild Arabians like White (Lake Isabella) for early elite alternatives [conversation_history]. Glitches risk save corruption or bans in online modes.
