Nahantu and Kurast from the Vessel of Hatred DLC
The Vessel of Hatred DLC in Diablo 4 introduces players to the lush yet perilous jungles of Nahantu, a region rich in lore and history. This area, also known as the Torajan Jungles, is home to ancient tribes like the Umbaru and Opaya, as well as remnants of the Zakarum faith and temples dedicated to the Prime Evils. Central to Nahantu is Kurast, a city that served as a hub in Diablo 2 and now returns, overrun by Mephisto’s lingering corruption. Players will navigate dense vegetation, face corrupted monsters such as the Lacuni and venomous creatures, and uncover dark secrets tied to Mephisto’s soulstone. This expansion also introduces new gameplay elements, including co-op activities like the Dark Citadel and the addition of the Spiritborn class, enhancing the immersive experience for both new and veteran players.
After purchasing the Vessel of Hatred expansion, you will unlock act 7 of the campaign – as part of it, you will unlock a new land called Nahantu. It is located in the southwestern part of the world map.
From the moment you reach Nahantu and unlock the Den, you can freely travel between the DLC land and the areas from the base game. You do that by using bridges (two different ones) and Waypoints (fast travel).
Kurast city is the most important urban location in the new land– you can visit, among others, Kurast Docks and Kurast Bazaar. You will meet many traders, quest characters, and get access to special Kurast Undercity dungeons.
Tenets of Akarat
In Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, the Tenets of Akarat are a new type of collectible shrine found throughout the Nahantu region. These shrines are similar to the Altars of Lilith from the base game but require players to solve puzzles to unlock them. There are 30 Tenets of Akarat, each hidden in various sub-regions of Nahantu, including the Five Hills, Lingering Hatred, and Restless Canopy. To activate a Tenet, players must complete one of four puzzle types: lighting statues within a time limit, defeating enemies to generate light orbs, matching illuminated statues, or defeating Shades of Hatred summoned by activating a red lion statue. Completing these puzzles rewards players with renown, skill points, and other benefits, enhancing their progression in the Nahantu region.
These shrines are available only in the Vessel of Hatred DLC – there are a total of 30 Tenets of Akarat to discover.
Most Tenets of Akarat have some minor environmental puzzle associated with them, such as activating Stone Guardians in the correct order. The rewards for completing each Tenet of Akarat are XP and Renown points available in Nahantu.

Notable mercenaries include Raheir, a defensive tank; Varyana, a melee powerhouse; Subo, a ranged trap specialist; and Aldkin, a magic-wielding half-demon. Players can recruit these allies by completing quests in their hideout, The Den, located in Nahantu. Mercenaries not only complement various playstyles but also enrich the strategic depth of the game through their diverse abilities and upgrades.
