Dive into the enigmatic world of Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree and uncover the captivating journey of Redmane Freyja, a warrior shrouded in mystery and driven by a quest for truth. This walkthrough guides you through the intricate steps of Freyja’s questline, from the haunting landscapes of Gravesite Plain to the foreboding halls of Shadow Keep, where loyalty, honor, and destiny collide in a tale of epic proportions.
Freyja is a loyal warrior of General Radahn and a new NPC introduced by the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. She is one of the pilgrims following in the footsteps of Miquella, and is part of the main quest – this means that her quest can be canceled if you haven’t managed to complete it before burning the small Scadutree in Church of the Bud. On this page, we have described Freyja’s quest and where to meet her for the first time.
Where to find Freyja for the first time?
To find Redmane Freyja for the first time, head to the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace in the Gravesite Plain. This location is easily identifiable by a large withered tree and one of Miquella’s Crosses nearby. Freyja will be standing next to the cross, dressed in golden armor. She will introduce herself and share her past as a comrade of General Radahn. Nearby, you’ll also find Hornsent, who she refers to as her “dour little friend,” and he will provide you with a map showing some of Miquella’s Crosses in the area.
Freyja is met for the first time in Gravesite Plain location, at the Tree-Path Cross site of grace. For now, you only need to talk to her. You will continue her quest a little later, while in progress of exploring the Shadow Keep.
How to continue Freyja’s quest?
To continue Redmane Freyja’s quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, start by speaking with her at the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace in Gravesite Plain. After defeating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, return to Freyja for additional dialogue. Next, break Miquella’s charm by progressing through the Shadow Keep. Once this is done, speak with Freyja again at the Three-Path Cross. Then, head to the Shadow Keep’s Seventh Floor Storehouse to find her again. Obtain the Secret Rite Scroll from the Fourth Floor and give it to Sir Ansbach on the First Floor. After resting at a Site of Grace, speak with Ansbach to receive a letter for Freyja. Deliver this letter to her on the Seventh Floor to progress her questline further.
The majority of Freyja’s quest takes place in Shadow Keep, the second story dungeon of the expansion. You’ll find the NPC on the seventh floor of Storehouse, right next to the Storehouse, Seventh Floor site of grace. Talk to her and exhaust all of the dialogue options – she will mention Ansbach.
Your next task will be to find Ansbach. Fortunately, you won’t have to venture far – the hero in question is on the ground floor of the Storehouse, in the back area of the building. Interact with him and mention Freyja, then use up all of the dialogue options.
If you would like to analyze the quest structure in the Storehouse from Ansbach’s perspective, check out the Sir Ansbach – walkthrough page.
To unlock the next phase of Freyja’s quest, you need to make progress in the task received from Ansbach – you need to find the Secret Rite Scroll. The item is also found in Shadow Keep – make your way to Storehouse, Fourth Floor site of grace. From the site, go outside through the large open window frame opposite it and follow the linear path. At the site where you’re attacked by bats, look left – you’ll see stairs leading down. Follow them, then enter the next room – the Secret Rite Scroll is inside. Deliver it to Ansbach and once again exhaust all of the dialogue options.
Warning – before you bring the scroll to Ansbach, you first need to find Freyja again and tell her about it. Otherwise, Ansbach will leave the keep grounds right after receiving the scroll, which will make you unable to continue with Freyja’s questline.
After delivering the scroll to Ansbach, rest at a site of grace and talk to Ansbach again – he will give you a letter for Freyja. Bring it to her and exhaust all of the dialogue options – Freyja will give you the Golden Lion Shield, thus concluding the quest. You can now return to Ansbach and tell him of Freyja’s reaction to the letter to continue with his task.
Final meeting with Freyja
Your final encounter with Redmane Freyja occurs in Enir-Ilim, where she will fight alongside Needle Knight Leda. This confrontation marks the culmination of her questline, as she has been seeking to cross blades with you. Unfortunately, Freyja does not survive this battle. After defeating her, you can loot her body to obtain her equipment. This concludes her storyline, leaving you to continue with the rest of the DLC’s narrative, ultimately leading to the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree.
If you’ve completed Freyja’s task, you’ll meet her again in the final dungeon of the expansion – Enir – Illim – you reach it after burning the Scadutree in Church of the Bud. Freyja will be one of the participants of a large battle ensuing at the end of the dungeon. If you have completed her quest, she will be hostile to you, with the only option to kill her if you want to continue to the final boss of the expansion. If you skipped her quest, Freyja won’t participate in the battle.
What are the key challenges in Freyja’s questline
The Redmane Freyja questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree presents several key challenges that players must navigate to successfully complete her story:
-
Optional Summon and Dialogue: Freyja can be summoned to help defeat the Divine Beast Dancing Lion at Belurat Tower Settlement. Missing this opportunity might limit additional dialogue, though it is not crucial for the quest’s progression.
-
Breaking Miquella’s Charm: Players must break Miquella’s Great Rune, which is a significant step in advancing Freyja’s quest. This involves navigating through Shadow Keep and overcoming its challenges.
-
Interconnected Questlines: Freyja’s quest is intertwined with Sir Ansbach’s. Giving Ansbach the Secret Rite Scroll before obtaining the Letter for Freyja can lock players out of Freyja’s questline, as Ansbach will disappear.
-
Timing and Sequence: The sequence of events and timing are critical. Players must ensure they speak to Freyja at the right moments and exhaust her dialogue to progress the quest.
-
Combat Challenges: The quest involves fighting against formidable enemies, including NPC allies in Enir-Ilim, which can be challenging for some players.
What are the consequences of not speaking to Freyja after defeating the Divine Beast
Failing to speak to Redmane Freyja after defeating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion can lead to several consequences in her questline:
-
Missed Dialogue and Context: Not engaging with Freyja after the boss fight means players will miss out on important dialogue that provides deeper context about her character and her connections to other NPCs, particularly General Radahn and Lady Leda. This dialogue enriches the narrative experience and understanding of the questline.
-
Quest Progression Issues: If players do not give Freyja the Letter for Freyja after the battle, her quest will not progress as intended. She will remain at Shadow Keep until the end of the game, which can limit interactions and prevent players from receiving rewards tied to her storyline.
-
Final Encounter Changes: By not completing her dialogue and giving her the letter, players may alter their final encounter with Freyja. If they later choose to give her the letter, she will disappear from Shadow Keep, and players can still obtain items like the Golden Lion Shield, but they will miss out on certain interactions.
-
Potential Item Loss: If players opt not to give Freyja the letter, she may die later in the questline, leading to a loss of unique items associated with her character, such as Freyja’s armor set and greatsword, which could have been obtained through a more thorough engagement with her storyline.
Overall, neglecting to speak with Freyja after defeating the Divine Beast can significantly impact both narrative depth and gameplay rewards in her questline.
