Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Igon Questline Walkthrough

Guides

Lost in the desolate plains of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, a broken warrior named Igon cries out for vengeance against Bayle the Dread, the dragon that shattered his body and spirit. Embark on a perilous journey through dragon-infested peaks, ancient ruins, and abyssal depths to help Igon reclaim his honor. Along the way, face one of the DLC’s most formidable bosses and uncover powerful rewards, including Igon’s legendary gear. Will you rise to the challenge and fulfill his desperate plea for justice?

Igon is a dragon hunter and friendly NPC you can encounter in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Albeit his quest is optional and separate from the main plot of the expansion, during it, you’ll travel to the summit of Jagged Peak and face a powerful boss, Bayle the Dread. On this page of our guide, you can find a walkthrough for the said quest and we show where this NPC is met for the first time.

Where to meet with Igon for the first time?

Your first encounter with Igon occurs in the Gravesite Plain, near the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace, southeast of Castle Ensis. As you approach the Site of Grace, you’ll hear Igon’s anguished cries, making him hard to miss. He lies on the ground, lamenting his fate and raging against Bayle the Dread, the dragon responsible for his suffering. Exhaust his dialogue to initiate his questline, which will eventually lead you on a perilous journey filled with dragon battles and opportunities to assist Igon in his quest for vengeance.

You will meet – and hear – Igon for the first time right next to the Pillar Path Cross site of grace. It is located along the main path south from Castle Ensis. Approach the screaming Igon and exhaust his dialog – you’ll learn of a foul dragon Bayle the Dread.

After a short conversation, you need to continue along the path – at the junction, go right and follow a lower path lined with dragon statues. Along the way, you’ll be attacked by an enemy, Ancient Dragon Man, whom you need to defeat. Watch out for some of his attacks, such as biting and fireballs. Fortunately, the enemy doesn’t have a lot of health.

After the fight, continue following the path – soon you’ll reach Dragon Pit, a cave that you need to progress through. At its end, you need to defeat Ancient Dragon Man again (this time he has more health, but the moveset remains the same) and leave through the new exit – you’ll find yourself in Foot of the Jagged Peak location.

Where to meet Igon for the second time?

To meet Igon for the second time in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, head to the “Foot of the Jagged Peak” Site of Grace after progressing through Dragon’s Pit. Here, you must defeat two Jagged Peak Drakes that are initially fighting each other. Once both are defeated, Igon will appear on the main path nearby, sitting and crying. Speak to him to receive “Igon’s Furled Finger,” which is essential for summoning him during the Bayle the Dread boss fight.

At the beginning of the new area, you’ll find a message from Igon – this means that the quest has progressed, with the NPC changing his location and no longer found at the site of grace. Follow the path leading to the bottom of the cliff, and by the small lake you’ll face a dragon. Fight him the same as every other dragon – on horseback, jumping over and avoiding melee attacks, watching out for fiery breath, and attacking the head at every opportunity you get. After defeating the dragon, start by going south to the Altar of Dragon Communion – here you can talk to the Dragon Communion Priestess to start another quest involving Bayle.

To continue with Igon’s quest, you need to travel east starting from the lake, following the path just above Finger Ruins of Rhia. You’ll know you’re on the right path when you’ll pass a large stony arch. Follow the only available path, use encountered Spiritsprings and cross the suspension bridge until you reach the Foot of the Jagged Peak site of grace.

Right next to it, you’ll encounter two fighting dragons – before stepping into the battle, you can hide and wait for one of the dragons to kill the other one. Nevertheless, even after entering the battle you can provoke the dragons to attack each other. After defeating the dragons, you’ll hear a familiar voice – its Igon sitting in the middle of the path leading forward. Talk to him, and he will give you his furled finger. With this item, you can summon Igon to help when facing the main boss of this location, Bayle the Dread.

Completing Igon’s quest

To complete Igon’s quest in Shadow of the Erdtree, begin by speaking with him at the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace, where he laments his defeat by Bayle the Dread. Follow the road south to the Dragon’s Pit, defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man, and continue through the pit to reach Jagged Peak. Here, battle the Jagged Peak Drake to obtain Igon’s Furled Finger, which allows you to summon him. Progress to Jagged Peak Summit and face Bayle the Dread in a challenging boss fight, summoning Igon for assistance. After defeating Bayle, return to Igon’s previous location near the Foot of Jagged Peak Site of Grace to find his body and collect his armor set and Bell Bearing as final rewards.

Continue journeying up the Jagged Peak by using the Spiritspring behind Igon and climbing – watch out for falling boulders. Eventually, you’ll reach the final enemy before Bayle himself – the ancient dragon Senessax. Defeat it or skip the encounter by climbing the nearby slope and next you’ll reach another site of grace – Jagged Peak Mountainside.

Time for the final part of the climb – use Spiritsprings, progress through a short cave and you’ll reach Jagged Peak Summit location. The arena for the Bayle encounter is right opposite the site of grace. Start the battle as soon as you are ready – you can summon Igon to help during the fight. The summoning sign can be located right after the battle is initiated – left from the arena entrance.

Rewards

Completing Igon’s questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree offers a wealth of valuable rewards. After defeating Bayle the Dread, players can claim Igon’s full equipment set, which includes his Greatbow, Helm, Armor, Gauntlets, Loincloth, and Bell Bearing. Additionally, Bayle’s Heart can be exchanged at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion for one of two powerful incantations: Bayle’s Flame Lightning or Bayle’s Tyranny. For those who assist Igon in his vengeance, these rewards not only enhance their arsenal but also serve as a testament to their role in concluding his tragic journey3.

Regardless of whether Igon survived the battle against his nemesis, died in the course of it or wasn’t even summoned, the final step of the quest remains the same. Return to the Foot of the Jagged Peak, to the arena where two drakes fought and the place where Igon gave you his furled finger. This is where you’ll find his body, from which you can take Igon’s Greatbow, Igon’s Armor and Igon’s Bell Bearing (after delivering it to the merchant in Roundtable Hold, you’ll unlock the ability to buy Igon’s Harpoons, special arrows for greatbows that deal bonus damage to drakes). This will end the quest.

What makes Igon’s quest so compelling

Igon’s quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is compelling due to its rich emotional depth and narrative intensity. Igon begins as a broken figure, a once-great Drake Warrior crippled by his failed battle against Bayle the Dread, a terrifying dragon. His vulnerability and obsessive thirst for revenge create a poignant character arc that resonates deeply with players.

The quest stands out because of its dramatic progression. Players witness Igon’s transformation from despair to resolve as he entrusts them with his Furled Finger, allowing his soul to join the climactic battle against Bayle. This partnership adds weight to the fight, as Igon’s personal stakes and fervent cries heighten the tension and emotional payoff, making the encounter unforgettable.

Moreover, Igon’s quest challenges traditional gameplay norms. It encourages players to use summons, not as a crutch, but as an integral part of the story. His relentless determination and vivid personality enrich the game world, showcasing From Software’s ability to craft memorable characters who elevate both gameplay and narrative.

What makes Igon’s relationship with Bayle so intense

Igon’s relationship with Bayle is intense due to its foundation in personal vengeance, ideological conflict, and a shared history of devastation. As a member of the Cult of Dragon Communion, Igon is driven by the belief that consuming the hearts of modern dragons grants power, and Bayle—the strongest modern dragon—is his ultimate target. However, Bayle utterly defeats Igon in their first encounter, leaving him physically crippled and emotionally shattered, which amplifies his obsession with revenge.

Bayle’s own history adds complexity to their dynamic. Once a mighty dragon who fought Lord Placidusax to a standstill, Bayle embodies destruction and defiance against the ancient dragons and their cult. His brutal strength and survival instincts make him a symbol of everything Igon seeks to overcome but struggles to match.

This clash between Igon’s unyielding determination and Bayle’s overwhelming power creates a dramatic tension that resonates throughout the quest. Igon’s relentless pursuit of Bayle, despite his injuries and failures, mirrors themes of perseverance and obsession, making their relationship both tragic and compelling.
