Prepare to delve into a world where every choice could lead to glory or doom as you unravel the secrets of Tanith’s dark domain.
Location
Volcano Manor is situated on Mt. Gelmir, a challenging region in Elden Ring that players may overlook due to its optional nature. The manor serves as the base for Lady Tanith, who invites players to join her questline involving assassination missions against various Tarnished. Accessing the manor can be achieved through multiple routes, including teleportation via NPC Rya or by navigating the treacherous terrain of Mt. Gelmir. Once inside, players will encounter unique characters and embark on quests that intertwine with the overarching narrative of the game, all while exploring the dark and mysterious atmosphere of Volcano Manor.
Tanith and the rest of the NPCs that are involved in the questline can be found on Mt. Gelmir) in the western part of the Altus Plateau , in the Volcano Manor to be exact.
How to proceed with the quest?
To proceed with the Tanith questline in Elden Ring, begin by reaching Volcano Manor, located in the Altus Plateau region. Upon arrival, speak to Tanith, who will invite you to join the manor and provide you with the Drawing Room Key. This key allows access to various rooms where you can find letters containing assassination contracts for NPCs scattered throughout the game world. Complete these tasks by invading the targets’ worlds and defeating them. After each successful assassination, return to Tanith for rewards and further instructions. Be mindful to finish all quests associated with Volcano Manor before confronting Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, as doing so prematurely will alter your interactions with Tanith and potentially lock you out of completing her questline.
First you need to reach Volcano Manor in order to start completing Tanith/Volcano Manor NPCs quests. The way to it is shown on a dedicated page of the guide (Volcano Manor – how to reach?)
Be sure to complete the questline before taking onRykard, Lord of Blasphemy, as if you defeat him before concluding it, Tanith will change her location. She will then be busy with something else, which means she won’t talk to you about the quests or give any new ones.
Start by talking to Tanith, who can be found next to a site of grace. She will ask you if you want to join the Volcano Manor. If you want to continue the quest, agree to join.
You will then receive a key that is used to open some of the rooms in the Volcano Manor. In the room on the left, there is a Letter from Volcano Manor . After picking it up, you’ll receive a contract to kill an NPC.
All tasks involve invading the world of a given NPC and killing him. However, you do not have to worry that by killing them you will receive a bad ending, or you will spoil your relations with other NPCs. All NPCs you have to kill only show up while completing these quests.
After picking up the letter, talk to Tanith, then go to Limgrave . In the northern part of the region, you will notice a red marker on the map. This is where you must go to visit the world of the NPC called Istvan .
Once you are there, a red summon sign will appear on the ground. Interact with it and invade the world of Istvan.
Istvan fights with a greatsword and also has a lot of HP and resistances due to heavy armor. Attack him when he attacks, preferably with heavy attacks to throw him off balance.
After defeating Istvan, return to the Volcano Manor , and talk to Tanith to receive your reward. Then re-enter the room where the letter was. You’ll find a new letter.
The next task is to kill Rileigh, who is in the Altus Plateau , in the northern part of the region.
Rileigh attacks mainly with a crossbow. However, he doesn’t have much survability. Watch out for his melee attacks, as they induce scarlet rot .
After defeating the NPC, return to Tanith again to collect your reward and get on with the quest.
Go to the room on the left again, you will find a new contract there (Red Letter) . This one comes from Knight Bernahl himself. You will have to kill Juno Hoslow, whose summoning sign is in Mountaintops of the Giants .
You can also talk to other characters in the Volcano Manor, including Bernahl and Patches.
Each gives a unique contract, but they are optional and Tanith’s questline can be completed without them.
The contract from Patches points you to Magma Wyrm Makar arena in Liurnia of the Lakes, at Ruin-Strewn Precipice site of grace to be exact.
You’ll have to face Tragoth, characteristic of his durability. For that reason, it is hard to throw him off-balance. To win, do not try to attack him when he is throwing hits unless you are equipped with powerful and heavy weapons.
The contract from Bernahl, on the other hand, leads to the center of Leyndell .
This fight takes place in an interior – you will have to defeat two enemies. Fortunately, Bernahl will help you during his fight. Take care of one of the enemies as fast as possible so it is 2v1.
The last contract takes you to Mountaintops of the Giants , near a shed.
Before you start fighting him, wait a moment to receive the gesture. The fight with him is the hardest of the lot because the enemy is equipped with whips that has a long range and induce bleeding. What’s more, he makes use of Bloodhound Step , thanks to which he will easily avoid your attacks.
You have to attack him when he is attacking, or use spells that will throw him off balance after being hit, or home to a target well (such as Night Comet) .
After Juno Hoslow is dead, return to Tanith. You will now be able to meet Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy .
After defeating Rykard, reset the location. The eaten bodies of Rykard and Tanith will appear in the arena.
To complete Tanith’s quest completely, you must kill her. After a short while, you will be attacked by her knight. The fight is not much different from the fight with the Crucible Knights .
After defeating the knight, all you have to do is collect the rewards for completing the quest.

What are the key challenges in the Volcano Manor questline
The Volcano Manor questline in Elden Ring presents several key challenges that players must navigate to successfully complete Tanith’s missions. Here are the main hurdles:
Key Challenges in the Volcano Manor Questline
- Character Level Requirements: Players are advised to be at least level 50 to tackle the questline effectively. Lower levels can lead to significant difficulties, especially during boss encounters and invasions.
- Sequential Task Completion: The questline involves multiple assassination tasks that must be completed in a specific order. Failing to complete these tasks before defeating Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, can lock players out of important rewards and further quest progression34.
- Diverse Enemy Encounters: Players face a variety of formidable foes, including the Magma Wyrm Makar and Juno Hoslow, each requiring different strategies and skill levels to defeat. The difficulty of these battles can vary greatly, making preparation essential2.
- Exploration and Navigation: The questline requires extensive exploration of the Volcano Manor and surrounding areas, including hidden passages and dangerous environments filled with lava and poisonous enemies. Players must be vigilant about their surroundings to avoid ambushes and environmental hazards24.
- NPC Interactions: Engaging with various NPCs like Patches, Rya, and Bernahl is crucial for receiving quests and rewards. However, players must be careful not to kill any key characters prematurely, as this can end the questline abruptly34.
- Multiple Endings and Outcomes: Decisions made during the quest can lead to different endings or outcomes, adding a layer of complexity to player choices throughout the storyline. This requires players to think strategically about their actions and interactions with NPCs4.
Successfully navigating these challenges is essential for unlocking the full potential of the Volcano Manor questline, providing players with unique rewards and deeper insights into Elden Ring’s lore.
What strategies can help defeat Vargram and Errant
To defeat Vargram the Raging Wolf and Errant Sorcerer Wilhelm in Elden Ring, players can employ several effective strategies to ensure victory in this challenging 2v2 encounter. Here are key tactics to consider:
Strategies for Defeating Vargram and Errant
- Target Wilhelm First: Begin by focusing your attacks on Errant Sorcerer Wilhelm. As a ranged magic user, he can inflict significant damage from a distance, making it crucial to eliminate him quickly. Once he is down, you can concentrate on Vargram without the distraction of magic attacks.
- Utilize Your Ally: You will have Recusant Bernahl as your ally during this fight. Let him engage Vargram while you focus on Wilhelm. This strategy allows you to divide the attention of both enemies, making it easier to manage the fight.
- Maintain Distance from Vargram: Vargram has powerful melee attacks that can deal heavy damage. Keep your distance when he is focused on Bernahl, and look for openings to strike when he is distracted. Avoid getting too close unless you are ready to dodge his heavy slashes and jump attacks.
- Use Status Effects: Consider using spells or items that inflict status effects like Scarlet Rot or Poison. These can chip away at the health of both enemies over time, allowing you to play more defensively while they suffer from the lingering damage2.
- Watch for Healing: Both Vargram and Wilhelm have one healing flask each. If you notice either of them using it, prioritize interrupting them if possible, as this can significantly prolong the fight.
- Cheese Strategy: For a less conventional approach, some players recommend using a “cheese” strategy by employing spells like Rotten Breath to inflict Scarlet Rot from a distance while letting Bernahl handle the bulk of the combat. This tactic allows you to avoid direct confrontation while still dealing damage2.
- Upgrade Your Gear: Ensure that your weapons are appropriately upgraded (recommended level +17 for regular weapons) to maximize your damage output during the fight.
By combining these strategies, players can effectively navigate the complexities of this dual battle and emerge victorious against Vargram and Wilhelm in Elden Ring’s Volcano Manor questline.
