How to Recruit Halsin Druid as Companion in Baldur’s Gate 3

Guides

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the journey to recruit the enigmatic Druid Halsin is as thrilling as it is challenging. Players must first navigate the treacherous Goblin Camp, where Halsin, transformed into a bear, lies captive. Only by defeating his captors and completing a series of quests in the Shadow-Cursed Lands can you earn his trust and invite him into your party. This guide will unravel the steps needed to secure this powerful ally, ensuring your adventures through Faerûn are bolstered by Halsin’s formidable druidic abilities.

How to meet Halsin in act 1?

To meet Halsin in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, players must first embark on the quest to rescue him from the Goblin Camp. After arriving at the Emerald Grove, you will learn that Halsin, the First Druid, has gone missing. Your objective is to navigate through the Goblin Camp and reach the Shattered Sanctum, where Halsin is imprisoned in the Worg Pens. Upon entering, you’ll need to defeat several goblins to free him from his bear form. Once rescued, Halsin will not immediately join your party but will later reconnect with you during a celebration back at the Emerald Grove, setting the stage for his recruitment in Act 2.

  1. You can find out that druid Halsin disappeared during your visit to the Druid Grove in act 1, but this is an optional step. The man is imprisoned in a goblin camp. We described the infiltration of this location in more detail on the How to get to the goblin camp? page in the FAQ section. There are several available ways to enter that location.
  2. It’s very important not to ally with goblins and attack the Druid Grove. This might ruin the chances of Halsin joining your party.

  1. When exploring the goblin camp, get to the Shattered Sanctum, and then to the Worg Pens.
  2. You will watch a cut-scene in which goblins are throwing stones at a bear in a cage. The initial reaction is irrelevant, because the bear will always get out after breaking the gate – this starts the fight. Help the bear in killing goblins and worgs from the nearby cage. Also expect that the enemies will get reinforcements (they will arrive through the door you used to reach this area). Don’t let the bear die.

  1. After the battles are over, you find out that druid Halsin you are looking for is the bear.
  2. You can talk to Halsin and ask him for help. You can now add him to the party or send him back to camp. Do not refuse Halsin.
  3. There is also an alternative variant in which you defeated the leaders of the goblin camp without rescuing Halsin, meaning without reaching the cage in which he was imprisoned while in the bear form. This will not ruin your chances to get this character. You can find Halsin in the Druid Grove after some time has passed. This will allow you to recruit him.

How to gain the approval of the druid?

To gain the approval of Halsin, the First Druid in Baldur’s Gate 3, players must navigate a series of critical decisions and quests. Initially, you need to rescue him from the Goblin Camp, specifically at the Shattered Sanctum, where he is imprisoned in a bear form. Successfully freeing him and defeating the goblin leaders is essential. After this, Halsin will celebrate your success at your camp, but he won’t immediately join your party. To recruit him as a companion, you must progress through the main story and assist him in subsequent quests, including finding Thaniel in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Making choices that align with the druids and avoiding actions that support Minthara will also ensure Halsin’s favor, ultimately leading to his permanent recruitment into your party.

To get approval with Halsin, you can:

  1. make decisions consistent with his beliefs;
  2. avoid having characters in the party with whom he may argue.

You can romance Halsinem as any of the genders. We have described the romance on a separate page.
